Southill Club2gether Easter camps 2012
In total 22 young people aged 10-13 years and 17 young people aged 14-18 participated in Club2gether camps from 3rd to 5th April and 11th to 13th April last. Great fun was had by both groups, the easter treasure hunt around O malley park on the first day proved to be a great warm up activity with everyone running too and fro around the centre and the church grounds to win the Easter eggs.
Another of the events that everyone enjoyed was the outdoor sports day with events including the egg n spoon and sack race, tug o war and 3 legged races too on the grounds of Southill Junior School. Thanks to liam Cantwell from Limerick City Sports partnership for his support organising this event for the camp. The event was topped off with a gorgeous BBQ in the garden of Southill Area Centre, everyone was fed with burgers and sausages and thanks to Breda, Mags, Eimear and all who got involved to serve the food on the day.
The highlights of week 2 were the day trips to Rathkeale lake with Lynne from Southill Outreach, two groups enjoyed canoeing around the pool before cathal lead the way to the nearby lake where everyone had more space to learn new conoeing moves. The second group were lucky enough that Eddie from Northside Garda Diversion happened to have a speedboat and was kind enough to give them a spin around the lake, the group really enjoyed this as well as diving and swimming in the pool when they returned to base. Thanks a million to lynne for her patience and support with the outing in Rathkeale.
The last day Friday 13th turned out to be a lucky day for the group of 14-18 year olds when we headed to Bolands Meadows Residential Centre in Foynes for a few hours of outdoor activities, from monkey bars to taking turns on the Zip Wire to the climbing wall and long puck, there was lots to do and no shortage of choice either. Thanks to Brendan for helping with the booking and to everyone who participated in the events during the Easter Camp for their good behaviour and patience with the staff and volunteers.
A special word of thanks to Timmy who volunteered whenever he could and was brilliant with the young people. Next up summer camps, plans will be posted nearer the time. Check out the photo gallery for the latest images from the easter camp.

Clean Up O'Malley Park Stone

On Friday the 22nd July some members of Southill Club2gether youth project cleaned up the O'Malley Park stone. The group, with the assistance of Mary Higgins, Estate Management and Community Officer, planned to restore the O'Malley stone at the entrance to the park to its original appearance. Mary helped with the provison of paint, tools and cleaning supplies for the young people to work with. Flowers were donated from the Southill Area Centre community garden.

Gavin, John and Callum along with youthworker Cathal Dillon and student Brian Waldron were involved. They did not hesitate to get involved in making their community a cleaner place and were very proud of their achievement on completion.

The stone has brightened up the entrance to O'Malley Park a great deal and is a credit to the work of the young people and Club2gether. Youthworker Cathal Dillon had great praise for the young people involved and said:
"It's great to see the young people of Southill involved in community projects like this. Thanks to Mary Higgins and Southill Area Centre for their contributions. Also thanks to Brian for his hard work as a student for the last 6 months, he will be missed as he is finishing his placement at the end of July."
