Who Are We & What do we do?

Southill Area Centre Community Youth Work Projects cater for a gap in service provision for mainstream young people in the Southill area and The Community Youth Work Team (CYWT) is committed to recognising young people’s potential and their ability to play an active role in the development of their community. We believe in a person centred holistic approach to each individual young person and realise that young people in the Southill Area have a right to be accepted for who they are and where they are at in life.

 The Team conists of 3 staff, two part time Out of Hours Outreach Workers namely Cora Doyle and Greg Dillon and one Full Time Community Youth Worker- Cathal Dillon. The team works together to identify young people in the target group and to encourage them to get involved in youth projects that they are interested in, all young people join the project on a voluntary participation basis and the views of all young people are listened to and respected.

 Projects in the pipeline include:

o    Provision of Summer Programs for specific age groups (planning stage)

o    1^st Tee golf Program for boys aged 10-12

o    Mountain Biking for 16+ in partnership with LCSP

o    Graffiti project for boys and girls aged 13-16

o    Community Action Projects-including clean ups and intergenerational projects

o    Personal and Social Development program for boys and girls 13-15 years.

o    Development of Southill Music Project (subject to funding)

o    Re-establishment of Southill Youth Club for 10-18 year olds one night a week in Southside Youth Space.

o    Fundraising initiatives

o    Volunteer recruitment and training.

The Community Youth Work Team are open to hearing from parents and young people in the community to develop appropriate projects that will encourage young people in the area to get involved in the community and can be contacted at any time to discuss youth provision in Southill.
